With Simpson’s Environmental Services - Kennedy Park landfill site
approaching completion the company faced a dilemma. A new landfill site,
serving West London, Heathrow Airport and industrial Slough was not a viable
option and increasing demand from Simpson’s growing customer base demanded
new disposal facilities.
Jeff Simpson, three times former Stock rod World Champion, two times European Truck Racing Champion, and Managing Director of Simpson’s Environmental Services considered the best strategy to meet the criteria of future growth and continued service to existing customers was the provision of a new waste transfer station and recycling facility.
A suitable site, adjacent to a potential rail load-out facility, located
in aptly named Simpson’s Way, Slough was acquired. Following a fact
finding visit to the IWM exhibition, and subsequent visits to several installations
throughout the UK, a contract was awarded to the LJH Group in July 2002.
The project encompassed the design, manufacture and installation of an integrated
skip waste sorting plant.
The plant, comprising a vibrating feeder, trommel screen, fines screen, lights blower system, picking belt and magnetic separator along with all transfer conveyors, electrics and the control systems, was specifically designed to the strictest health and safety standards. With a completion target of November 2002 the plant specification allowed for the recovery of hardcore, metals, wood, and growing media, with non-recoverable lights being sent to landfill.
Commissioned on schedule, the plant, which has attracted the attention of many recycling companies, is currently processing up to 100 tones per hour and handling increasing customer demand.
